Artan Hajrullahu

Biography

Artan Hajrullahu (b. 1979 in Gjilan, Kosovo) works across painting and drawing. His artistic practice reflects on narrative descriptions from everyday life and childhood memories. He studied Painting at the Academy of Arts, University of Prishtina. He teaches painting at the Visual Arts High School in Gjilan, Kosovo. ‘My work is closely intertwined with images of an ordinary life, immersed in a childish imagination. Narrative descriptions from everyday life and memories from the childhood past are a reflection in my work during these times of ‘health emergency’. In this case, ‘Drawings’, describe narrative scenes where the relationships between human beings and household objects tell a poetic story ’ – Artan Hajrullahu. His drawings often contain references to families and traditional themes, including prejudices against nudity and social taboos. The “Artists of Tomorrow” award he received in 2013 offered Hajrullahu the opportunity to participate in the International Studio and Curator Program – ISCP in New York. In 2018, he was honoured with the Muslim Mulliqi Award – NGK. Hajrullahu works and teaches painting at the High School of Visual arts in Gjilan, Kosovo. His solo shows have been held at the National Museum of History in Tirana, 2006; National Gallery of Kosovo Prishtina, 2010; the exhibition “Bajraktari” at Tetris, 2011; International Studio& Curatorial Programs ISCP New York 2014; at Tulla Culture Center in Tirana,2015; In 2013 he was awarded the Kosovo Artist of Tomorrow prize and Artist of the Year, Gjilan, Kosovo. In 2018 he was awarded the International Exhibition Muslim Mulliqi Prize.
