An intimate talk with one of the foremost Arbëreshë scholar Francesco Altimari, professor of Albanology at the Università della Calabria who will deliver a lecture on Arbëreshë’s peculiar culture, their unique language, art, customs, and traditions — a discussion of Arbëreshë extraordinary history and heritage.

Françesco Altimari (1955) is a professor of Albanian Language and Literature at the Universityof Calabria since 1992. He taught the same subject at the University of Naples “Orientale” (1991-92), the University of Lecce(1993-97), the University of Trieste (2000-01) and the University of Milano-Cattolica (2004-17). His research interests include Albanian Philology and Linguistics in the Balkan and Italian areas. He is also interested in linguistic and comparative Balkan studies. Editor of the Opera Omnia of Girolamo De Rada (1814-1903), author of several books on topicsconcerning Albanian philology, linguistics and literature, and of a number of article published inspecialized Italian and foreign journals. He is an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of Albania since 2006 and of the Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2008. He was granted “honoris causa” degrees from the University of Tirana in 2007, the University of Tetova (Macedonia) in 2013, of the University “Eqrem Cabej” of Argirocastro in 2016 and of the University “Aleksander Moisiu” of Durazzo in 2017. President of the Academic Foundation “Francesco Solano” founded in 2009 by the University ofCalabria. The goals of the Foundation are to promote Albanian language and culture in Italy, fostercultural exchanges between historic Albanian communities in Italy and the communities in theBalkan area (Albania, Kossovo, Macedonia, Greece and Montenegro) and support didactic andscientific activities of the University of Calabria in the Balkans.
